Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies are, how UK law applies to them and why this website does not currently set any cookies by default.

The law on cookies

In the UK, the use of cookies and similar technologies is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). Where cookies involve personal data, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 also apply.

Under PECR, a website must tell you clearly about any cookies or similar technologies it uses, and must get your consent before storing or accessing information on your device. The only exception is where that storage is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They can be used to remember settings, keep you signed in, measure how a site is used or show you adverts. Similar technologies, such as local storage, tracking pixels and scripts that read information from your device, are covered by the same rules.

Cookies set by the website you are visiting are known as first-party cookies. Cookies set by another organisation, such as an analytics or advertising provider, are known as third-party cookies. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser, while persistent cookies stay on your device for a set period or until you delete them.

Cookies we currently use

This website does not set any cookies by default. We do not use analytics, advertising, social media or other tracking cookies, and we do not use cookies or similar technologies to build a profile of you or follow you around the web.

Our contact and free SEO audit forms are protected from spam by a hidden "honeypot" field and a timing check that run on our own server, and by Google reCAPTCHA v3.

Google reCAPTCHA

reCAPTCHA is not loaded when you visit a page. It loads only once you start filling in one of our forms. When it does, Google may set or read cookies (such as _GRECAPTCHA) and use similar technologies to tell people apart from automated programs. We use it only to protect the form you have chosen to use from spam and abuse, so we treat it as strictly necessary for that purpose. Google explains how it uses this information in the Google Privacy Policy.

Local storage

Your browser has a feature called local storage, which lets a website save small pieces of information on your device. It is not a cookie and is not sent to our server with each page request.

If you choose a display setting, such as a light or dark theme, this website may save that preference in your browser's local storage so the setting is remembered next time you visit. It is used only for your convenience. It does not identify you, and it is not used for tracking, analytics or advertising. Because it only remembers a choice you have made, we treat it as strictly necessary to provide the feature you have asked for.

You can remove it at any time by clearing the site data for this website in your browser settings. The site will then use its default display.

Third-party services

We do not load third-party scripts, fonts or tracking tools by default. The fonts and scripts used on this site are hosted on our own server, so viewing a page does not send requests to Google Fonts, content delivery networks or other outside services. The one exception is Google reCAPTCHA, which loads only once you start filling in one of our forms, as described above.

If you follow a link from our website to another website, such as a social media platform, that website may set its own cookies. Those cookies are controlled by the other website, so please check its cookie policy.

If we add analytics in future

We may decide to use an analytics tool, such as Google Analytics 4, to understand how visitors use the site so that we can improve it. If we do:

  • analytics cookies or similar technologies will not be set until you have given your consent through a clear choice on the site
  • refusing will be as easy as accepting, and you will be able to change your mind at any time
  • we will update this policy to list each cookie used, who sets it, what it does and how long it lasts
  • we will update our Privacy Policy to explain any personal data involved and any transfers outside the UK

How to manage cookies in your browser

Most web browsers let you view, block and delete cookies and other site data. You can usually find these options in the browser's settings or preferences, under headings such as "Privacy", "Privacy and security" or "Cookies and site data". The help pages for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge and most other browsers explain the steps.

Clearing cookies and site data for this website will also remove any display preference saved in local storage. Blocking cookies may stop some features on other websites from working, but it will not affect how this website works at present, because it does not set cookies by default.

The ICO also publishes general guidance about cookies on its website: https://ico.org.uk/.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if we change how the website uses cookies or similar technologies, including before we introduce any analytics. The "last updated" date on this page shows when it was last changed.
